Basic purpose of the position:

Perform the essential inspection and repair of railroad track on a specified territory of railroad. Associates designated as "Lead Man" have mastered the skills required of a "Track Worker" and are able to perform essentially error-free work without direct supervision.

Individuals performing this function must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others. Job performance without equipment damage is essential to meeting our customers' safety, quality and production requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect railroad track to identify installation and repairs that can be performed by Road & Rail Services
  • Remove, replace and repair track components (ties, rails, bars, switches)
  • Perform authorized repairs to customer, company and industry specification
  • Document all repairs, properly accounting for actual time and parts utilized
  • Maintain accountability and maintenance for all assigned equipment to include supplied hand tools

Education Requirements:

  • High School education or ability

Experience Requirements:

  • Must possess and demonstrate appropriate mechanical aptitude, as determined by the facility manager, to successfully perform the tasks associated with track installation and repair.

Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:

  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment;
  • Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy.
  • Physical, Mental & Sensory Requirements:
  • Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions
  • Constantly required to use bending, kneeling, twisting and walking motions on uneven surfaces throughout the entire work shift
  • Ability to frequently walk 5 miles in a 3 hour period and occasionally walk up to 10 miles in a shift
  • Backhoe experience a plus
  • Ability to rarely lift and carry up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 70 lbs
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to push and pull at a force of up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend or climb for periods of time greater than 2 hours
  • Must be able to hear and communicate, work or safety instructions spoken in a normal voice
  • Must have auditory and visual acuity, tracking, inspecting
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment

Conditions of Employment: Employment is conditional, based on a medical examination which includes a drug screen, and an examination to verify candidates can safely perform the essential functions of the job. Road & Rail Services requires a post-offer motor vehicle reference check, background check, and employment & military (if applicable) verification required.
